Time-of-Use Rate(s)

What's Time-of-Use?  It's a lot like it sounds.  You are charged based of the time of day that you use energy.  Most of the day isn't considered a peak time or time when energy prices are commonly higher.  The current energy rate for single and three phase members is flat at $.135/kWh.  That smooths the higher and lower priced periods of the day and includes demand charges as well.  If you are able to avoid using energy during the peak times of the day, the cooperative doesn't have to pay a higher price for the kWh's you consume and we can most likely avoid some demand charges as well.  That's how the time-o-use concept came to be.  You can pay for kWh's based on the time you use them.  This isn't something every member or family can do.  Avoiding the peak time is harder for some than others.  It also doesn't mean you can't use any energy during the peak window, it just means those kWh's cost more.  We often refer to this as a price signal.  When energy costs more, you likely are driven to use less, and shift that usage to lower cost periods.  This rate is OPTIONAL.
